چکیده

The efficiency of attapulgite liners as anti-seepage for crude oil is examined. Consideration given to the potential use raw and mixture with prairie hay coconut husk prevent seepage. Attapulgite clay used in this study was brought from Injana formation /Western Desert Iraq. Two types Crude Iraqi fields were experiments; heavy East-Baghdad field light Nassiriya field. Initially basic properties oils determined. subjected mineralogical, chemical scanning electron microscope analyses. Raw 150µm, 75µm, 53µm tested oil. Experiments showed that 75µm are good terms retention prevention seepage so they can be main layer impede flow attapulgite150µm could not a liner This type totally inefficient Adding 150µm gives barrier medium retains prevents it long possible. failed whereas partial substitution by or enhanced performance liner. Moreover, addition greater extent compared hay.

Efficient dispersion of crude oil by blends of food-grade surfactants: Toward greener oil-spill treatments.

Effectiveness of oil spill dispersants containing lecithin/Tween 80 (L/T) blends in ethanol was measured as a function of L:T ratio, surfactant:solvent ratio, solvent composition, and dispersant:oil ratio (DOR) using baffled flask dispersion effectiveness tests. Optimal L:T ratios are between 60:40 and 80:20 (w/w); at higher L:T ratios, effectiveness is limited by high interfacial tension, whil...

Evolutionary responses to crude oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill by the copepod Eurytemora affinis

The BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster was the most catastrophic offshore oil spill in U.S. history, yet we still have a poor understanding of how organisms could evolve in response to the toxic effects of crude oil. This study offers a rare analysis of how fitness-related traits could evolve rapidly in response to crude oil toxicity. We examined evolutionary responses of populations of the comm...

Bioremediation of Oil Spill

At present, petroleum hydrocarbon is one of the most serious Abstract: environmental problem. Oil spill occurring accidently in the ocean during transportation or other working places like refineries causes great threat to the flora and fauna existing nearby. Modern methods of remediation such as incineration, land filling, burning, etc. are expensive as well as their byproducts produced are of...

Monitoring of Crude Oil Spill off the West Coast of the Korean Peninsula Using Sar Images

The nation’s largest maritime oil spill occurred on the west coast of the Korean Peninsula on December 7, 2007. All civilian space-borne SAR sensors including TerraSAR-X, ENVISAT ASAR, RADARSAT-1, ERS-2 SAR, and ALOS PALSAR acquired imageries over the contaminated area. Dark patches observed in these SAR images revealed the presence of oil spills, and showed how wide the spilled area is and how...

The effect of crude oil spill at Izombe, Imo State, Nigeria on plankton diversity and abundance

This work was aimed at assessing the effect of crude oil spill on the diversity and abundance of plankton communities of the Njaba River area of the spill. Sampling was carried out in 1999 in nine clusters of stations, three each from upstream, spill-point and downstream transects. Each cluster was made up of three perpendicular sampling points across the river. Standard methods were used in co...
